The National
Bank St Kitts Association One Day Cricket
Tournament commenced on March 4, 2006 at the
Molineux Playing field with an exhilarating
opening ceremony. Representatives from the
Ministry of Sport, President of the St Kitts
Cricket Association Mr. Ingle Liburd,
cricketers and a host of enthusiastic fans
were all present as a National Bank
representative handed over a cheque for
$15,625. The Bank also commended the St
Kitts Cricket Association for reintroducing
this tournament to its calendar of events.
Thirty years
ago, every Kittitian and Nevisian family
owned a make shift cricket bat and ball.
Children joined their adult counterparts in
looking forward to the cricket season, which
culminated in the matches between St Kitts
Nevis. The healthy rivalry between the two
islands added excitement and drama to the
game.
Over the
years we have witnessed the gradual waning
of the passion that once fuelled the sport
in the Federation. This is in part due to
the lack of organized competition and
opportunities for the athletes to showcase
their talent and be acknowledged and
rewarded for their contribution to the
sport. National is pleased to partner with
the St Kitts Cricket Association to host
tournaments like this in an effort to
rekindle local passion for the sport.
